Cairde Khmer GAA Club – Cambodia is a Phnom Penh based Gaelic football club that welcomes both expats and Khmers of all sexes, shapes, sizes and standards! The club was formed in 2017 by two Irishmen – Conor Wall and Paddy Campbell.
Ronan Sheehan, the club’s former chairman told the BBC, “It was meant to be a bit of craic – go to Bangkok one time to check out a Gaelic tournament”. The club quickly gathered interest. Between 2019 and 2023 they competed in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam – with both men and ladies securing several victories at the Asian Gaelic Games and South Asian Gaelic Games.

On the back of their performance at the Asian Gaelic Games, they were chosen to represent Asia at the GAA World Games in Derry, Northern Ireland (July 2023)! Getting visas for the two all Khmer male and female teams to visit Derry may seem like an impossible task but the club made it happen!

Behind the Scenes at Cairde Khmer GAA Club
More than just a GAA club. As well as being a place for members to keep fit, meet new people, and travel to compete in other countries, the Cairde Khmer GAA club is actively involved in the local community – regularly promoting blood donation campaigns, supporting charities, and generally calling on people to look out for and help one another.

Proud Sponsors of Cairde Khmer GAA Club
Having met the team members and witnessed the impact the club has on the local community we were only too happy to sign up for sponsorship! In support of our friends at the club, each Thursday, The Wild Rover Irish pub staff will be proudly wearing our Cairde Khmer GAA tops in replacement of our regular uniform!
